Funboards - Probably the best choice for beginners, funboards afford great buoyancy & forgiveness (read: wave catching ability) with exceptional maneuverability on and off the wave. If you’re just starting out you’ll quickly learn that getting ‘out’ to the line-up is a substantial hurdle, and with a funboard you will be able to more easily duck dive (or turtle) the white wash than you would with larger board. Plus, when you catch a wave you will find these boards much easier to turn and pump down the wave. So, there you are, you’re getting the best of both worlds (wave catching ability and board control) AND enough buoyancy to surf all different types of waves/breaks.
